  • 2002-02-06 NEW RELEASE DATE FOR "UNBREAKABLE"
There is a new tentative release date for Unbreakable, the third single from Michael Jackson's multi-platinum "Invincible" album.

The date, for the UK and most other territories (except for the USA where no commercial release has yet been planned) is Monday 8th April. This date could yet change, but is currently accurate.

As of yet, the song will not be added to radio playlists, as the radio edit has not yet been distributed to the world's Sony offices to in turn distribute to the radio stations. However, this will be happening nearer the commercial release, and we will let you know when, so that fans can begin requesting the song at that time.

The video will also be distributed to Sony's offices worldwide nearer the time of the song's commercial release.

We will of course keep you informed as we receive more information, including track listings and catalogue numbers.

In other news, Billboard of 9th February will report that the French music market has seen an almost 11% rise in French music shipments, and that Michael Jackson is one of only two international artists in the French 2001 year-end best-selling albums list. Billboard - unarguably the bible of the American music industry editorialised: "Michael Jackson carried the flag for international repertoir..."

  • 2002-02-01 Billboard Update
Despite an increase in airplay at urban radio, Butterflies remains at #2 on the R&B/Hip-Hop singles chart. The song trails closely behind Ja Rule's Always on Time, a song that unlike Butterflies is available commercially at retail. Next week may see Butterflies reach the summit but there's stiff competition from Brandy's new song What About Us, which bullets to #5 this week.

On the Hot 100 chart, Butterflies appears to have peaked, falling one spot to #15 this week.

Invincible is at #27 on the Top 200 album chart and has gone double platinum in the States (over 2 million albums shipped and ordered from retail), MJ's 6th on Epic to do just that.

  • 2002-01-29 You Rock My World Part of Grammy 2002 CD
It's the King of Pop's Second Appearance on the Popular CD Franchise

As the music industry gears up for this year's Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy is prepping the seventh annual Grammy CD compilation. Due Feb. 5 on Universal Music Entertainment's (UME) UTV Records, the 17-track 2002 collection will feature Michael's nominated You Rock My World. Hits from Alicia Keys, U2, Nelly Furtado, Backstreet Boys, Outkast, Elton John, Brian McKnight, James Taylor, Five For Fighting, and R.E.M. are also represented.
According to Billboard online, Michael Greene, Recording Academy president/CEO said this year's pop compilation will include songs featured in six different categories, up from four last year. "This year we have representatives from the record of the year, album of the year, song of the year, best new artist, best pop male, and best pop duo and group categories," he says. "We had so many duplications in the nominations that we had to add additional categories."
Launched in 1995 as a promotional tool on behalf of the artists and labels, the Grammy compilations rotated among the major labels. The participating label receives 50% of the proceeds from sales of the compilation, with the other half benefiting the Grammy Foundation.
